There’s nothing like an old fashioned spring cleaning to make your kitchen seem like new again. We’re not just talking about moving the mail and magazines that accumulate on your counter tops or washing the dishes that have been piling up in the sink; we’re talking about a real deep clean!
De-clutter Your Kitchen
First things first. De-clutter the entire kitchen. Anything that might have been set on your counter tops or other kitchen surfaces that doesn’t belong must go. Even pieces of decor must be moved temporarily to make your cleaning experience easier.
Say ‘Goodbye’ to Dust
With your kitchen surfaces freshly cleared off, it’s now time to break out the duster and get to dusting. Don’t just get the obvious places; think outside of the box. For example, spots that dust loves to accumulate are air vents and the tops of your refrigerator and microwave.
The Wipe-down
Next comes the wipe-down phase. Wipe down all of your surfaces and large appliances, including walls, counter tops, your refrigerator (inside too), and your microwave, with an all-purpose cleaner. Really try to get all of the spots and blemishes out and make them shine! Don’t forget to clean your stove (knobs, burners, drip pans), oven (racks and walls), dishwasher (food trap), and sink.
Pro tip: add some vinegar or baking soda to your dishwasher and run it empty to clean places that you can’t reach.
The Wipe-down: Part Two
After the main surfaces and large appliances are squeaky clean, it’s time to focus on the smaller items. Wipe down your blender, toaster oven, coffee maker, and any other small appliances.
Pro tip: fill your coffee pot with half water and half vinegar. Pour the mixture into your coffee maker and brew to clean the inside of your coffee maker.
Toss Out and Organize
Go through all of your cabinets and drawers and remove any items that never get used. Try to find the lids for all of your containers and make sure they are together. Arrange and organize the contents of your cabinets and drawers so that everything is easily accessible.
Clean the Floor
Time to wrap up your kitchen spring cleaning sessions. Move your refrigerator and any other obstacles to another room temporarily. Sweep or vacuum your kitchen floor and then mop.
You’re All Done!
Once you’ve done everything listed above, grab yourself a cold beverage and admire your hard work! A freshly cleaned kitchen is a joyous thing.
