In observance of Memorial Day and to honor Veterans that have died in service to our country, Market Basket will join with the National Grocers Association (NGA) and other Americans around the country in the National Moment of Remembrance.
Skylar Thompson, company President said, “The moment of silence will be company-wide in honor of the Veterans that sacrificed so much for our country. We are proud of our Veterans and are grateful to the solders and families that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our liberties and freedoms.” Mr. Thompson added, “At 3pm on Memorial Day, we are asking our associates and customers to pause and honor those that gave the ultimate sacrifice for our country”.
America’s Grocers have a long history of being committed to their country, especially during challenging times. This is best exemplified through NGA’s Grocers Care program.
“Memorial Day (first called Decoration Day) began in 1868 to remember those killed in the Civil War. Since World War I, Memorial Day has become a time to honor all those who died in service to our Nation. The Moment does not replace tradition Memorial Day events; it is an act of national unity to honor our fallen. In this shared remembrance, we connect as Americans.” Statement by National Grocers Association.
Market Basket is a thirty store supermarket chain serving Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. Market Basket is currently celebrating their 50th anniversary.
