Market Basket held a ribbon cutting ceremony Wednesday, August 10th at heir brand new 41,786 square foot store in Leesville, Louisiana. The new Market Basket store, located at 9058 Shreveport Highway, will have greatly increased general merchandise with the addition of several new departments. There is a greater selection of fresh produce, meats, frozen foods and dairy products, as well as the addition of a floral department, fresh seafood, bakery, deli, dollar section and a sit down café.
“We’re so excited to be bringing a new store to Leesville,” says Market Basket President Skylar Thompson. “And we look forward to continuing to serve the Leesville community, and to bigger and better things to come.”
The new store has an open ceiling and a stained concrete floor. The meat department will have a smoke house that will produce old-fashioned sausage. The produce preparation room has been placed on the sales floor allowing customers to have quick access to the produce associates. The new Market Basket is energy efficient with all cases lit with energy saving LED lighting. Light sensing store lights turn off or on depending on the amount of light provided by the sky lighting. The dairy and beverage cases have energy saving doors instead of open cases.
Market Basket first entered into Leesville in 2001 by leasing an 18,000 square foot space on 5th street and employed around 50 associates. With more than double the size of the building, number of products and associates employed, Market Basket is looking forward to continuing to service the Leesville community. “We are very proud of our new facility in Leesville,” says Chuck Barbee of Market Basket. “We are excited to offer a host of new products and services to the local community.”
Market Basket was first opened in 1961 by Bruce and Alletta Thompson and is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Market Basket is a full-service, regional supermarket chain that is locally owned and privately held with 30 locations throughout Southwest Louisiana and Southeast Texas.
