March is National Nutrition Month®. How, when, why and where we eat are just as important as where we eat.¹ Research shows that creating mealtime at home, without distractions can help trim the waistline. How is this possible? By taking the time to create a menu, shop for meals and prepare meals at home, people are more likely to add items like fruits and vegetables to their meals. Fresh delicious salads (monitor how much salad dressing due to calories), brightly colored veggies, and wonderful sweet fruits all contain rich vitamins which help protect against diseases such as certain types of cancer, heart disease and diabetes. Balance out plates with all of the food groups and choose healthy eating styles. Learn more about healthy eating styles with MyPlate in next week’s Nutrition Corner.
