Olive oil is delicious and has health benefits due to its monounsaturated fatty acid content (MUFA), which helps to lower LDL cholesterol. So we may love olive oil and its health properties, but how do you store olive oil? The best methods are to keep the oil away from: oxygen, heat and light. Store the oil in a dark, cool location such as a cabinet. Keep it away from the stove, vent system, and anywhere else that emits heat. If you store it in a container with a spout, the closure should be air tight to avoid oxygen – which causes the oil to go rancid – and affects the flavor of the olive oil. Olive oil will store up to two years in an airtight container.
